Area Cyclists Come Together for
Don Sleeper Benefit
If you’ve ever ridden the perimeter trail at O.P. Schnabel Park, you have Don Sleeper to thank for it. In fact, Don has had a hand in creating and maintaining numerous cycling trails throughout San Antonio, more than most anyone else in the local cycling community.
But now Don, himself, needs a hand. Last year, he was diagnosed with cancer and earlier this year, was hospitalized due to its many complications. Always the quiet man, he won't ask for help... even at a time when he needs it most.

This explains why on Sunday, February 24, 2008, hundreds of area cyclists from all disciplines- road, mountain, free-ride, bmx and cruisers (we even had a couple of unicyclists!)- gathered at O.P. for a benefit ride and BBQ to help offset his mounting medical costs.
Don, even through his illness, is a hard worker, but unfortunately, he has no health insurance. Thus, though over $6,000 have been raised, donated or pledged to date, as is often the case in modern medicine, his cancer treatments will far exceed that amount.
Accordingly, additional fundraisers are in the works. If you would like to help, send an e-mail to Terry McChesney at tmcches@yahoo.com. Additionally, monetary donations can be mailed to Don Sleeper in care of STORM at
